Dr Mookkan Prabakaran Group: Postdoctoral Position
Research
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team studying the zoonotic risk posed by avian influenza A viruses (AIVs) in wild birds. The successful candidate will investigate serological responses and the antigenic characteristics of zoonotic AIVs in wild birds. The work will contribute to an improved understanding of viral exposure, antigenic evolution, cross-species transmission risks and preparedness for emerging avian influenza threats.
Responsibilities:
- Generate recombinant influenza viruses using reverse-genetics systems
- Develop and perform ELISA, multiplex immunoassays, virus neutralisation assays and other high-throughput serological assays
- Characterise mAbs and develop species-independent antibody detection assays
- Conduct antigenic characterisation and antigenic mapping of AIV strains
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research team
Requirements:
- PhD Degree in Virology and Immunology, or a related field
- At least one first-author research article in an international peer-reviewed journal
- Demonstrated experience working with influenza viruses or other zoonotic viruses
- Proven experience in reverse genetics, virological assays and serological assays
- Previous experience working under BSL-3 conditions is preferred
