SATS and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Sign MOU to Explore Collaboration in Support of Singapore’s Food Security

30 Jun 2026

Singapore, 24 June 2026 – SATS Ltd. (SGX: S58) (“SATS”), one of the world’s leading providers of air cargo handling services and Asia’s leading airline caterer and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Limited (“TLL”), a Singapore-based life sciences research institute dedicated to advancing food security, sustainability, and human well-being through scientific innovation, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to explore collaboration in food research, development, and production. The partnership brings together TLL’s scientific expertise in food innovation and SATS’ product development, large-scale food production and distribution capabilities, with a shared ambition to strengthen Singapore’s food security and advance the journey from laboratory to table.

TLL researchers are studying how food crops and protein sources can be grown sustainably while improving yield and nutrition. For example, TLL is developing high-yielding, nutritious varieties of tomatoes optimised for urban cultivation, and locally grown jade perch within modular shipping containers equipped with specialised aquaculture systems. Under the two-year MOU, SATS and TLL will explore how such TLL-developed crops and protein sources could be scaled for consumers. TLL is also exploring the market potential of value-added staple food products derived from its home-grown crop innovations. This is where SATS’ market expertise in areas such as product development, food safety, packaging, and large-scale food manufacturing and distribution could complement the specialised know-how that TLL researchers have amassed over the years. Collaborative activities will include facility visits, knowledge exchange, and discussions on potential business models for bringing TLL’s food innovations to consumers.

The MOU reflects both organisations’ commitment to Singapore’s food security agenda and the broader goal of building a food system that is more resilient, sustainable and nutritionally beneficial for future generations.

Kerry Mok, SATS President and CEO, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory to explore how Singapore-grown food innovations can be translated into practical, scalable solutions that contribute to the nation’s food security. Leveraging SATS’ expertise in culinary development, food safety, food technology, packaging and large-scale food production, we can help bridge the journey from research to consumer. By combining TLL’s scientific expertise with SATS’ production capabilities and global network, we look forward exploring how innovative and nutritious food solutions developed in Singapore can reach more people, locally and beyond.”

Concurring, Peter Chia, CEO of Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, added, “Food security is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and we believe good science has a critical role to play. Partnering with SATS, an organisation with the scale, expertise and reach to bring innovations from the lab to the consumer, is an exciting step forward in translating TLL’s research into tangible benefit for Singapore and beyond. We are hopeful this collaboration will be a productive one for both organisations and, more importantly, for the people we hope to serve.”
