Dr Ong Chin Tong Group: Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to further investigate our recent findings. The successful candidate will employ bioinformatic and molecular approaches, in combination with primary human neurons culture, to study the impact of epigenetic alterations and intron retention on neuronal differentiation, aging and AD progression. The project integrates genomic, cellular, and computational methodologies to uncover regulatory mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration.

Our lab employs integrative and multidisciplinary approaches to elucidate the mechanisms that regulate neuronal differentiation, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) progression. We combine bioinformatic analyses of publicly available datasets with mechanistic studies in different model systems to elucidate regulatory pathways underlying neurodegeneration.

Through comprehensive analyses of publicly available AD datasets, we identified aberrant intron retention patterns associated with brain aging and AD pathogenesis (PMID: 30868713; 39804791). In addition, we discovered a novel Tau11i isoform that may serve as a potential biomarker for AD pathogenesis (PMID: 36067305; 41422990).

Using Drosophila and mouse embryonic stem cell models, we demonstrated that specific phosphorylation of Tet3 influences neuronal differentiation (PMID: 31807777). We further showed that a nuclear architectural protein regulates locomotor activity in Drosophila (PMID: 29571672), and that Nelf-A modulates aging through stress response pathways (PMID: 33788376).

Together, our work integrates computational genomics, molecular biology, and model organism research to advance understanding of epigenetic regulation in neuronal development, aging and neurodegenerative disease.
