We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team of researchers working to bridge biodiversity and discovery-directed approaches with applications in sustainability.
The NRF-funded project is focused on understanding the diversity, cell biology and physiology of novel marine diatoms (https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3003038), and their application as bioconversion platforms. Responsibilities:
- Environmental collection and isolation of new strains from the intertidal zone
- Conduct experiments combining methods in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and microscopy
- Basic lab organization and administration
Requirements:
- BSc in the life sciences, or related fields
- A good understanding of eukaryotic genetics and cell biology
- Prior experience in lab research
- Past experience with genetics, microscopy, molecular biology or microbiology would be helpful
- A keen interest in learning and exploring new subjects
