A position for a Post Doctoral Fellow/Research Fellow in Bioinformatics is immediately available at the Reproductive Genomics Group led by Laszlo Orban (Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore). The group works on various aspects of research-based aquaculture, which is largely anchored on genomic and next-generation sequencing data (click HERE for details).
- The successful candidate is expected to join as a senior team member particularly to lead and coordinate the Bioinformatics team to work on projects involving – but not limited to – the de novo assembly and annotation of the Asian seabass genome, and the Asian seabass and Mozambique tilapia transcriptomes under various conditions and metagenomic sequence analyses. (S)he will also develop pipelines and tools to assist various analyses which are relevant to the project aims.
- Applicants should posses a PhD either in bioinformatics/computational biology, or in genomics/molecular genetics/molecular biology with at least 3 years of research experience in bioinformatics and sequence data analyses. Experience in sequence assembly and annotation, a good understanding of biology and biological data, skills in Perl/BioPerl, Shell and Unix programming as well as database and web interface development are essential. Knowledge in statistics, nutrigenomics or applied fish research will be an advantage.
- Applicants must have at least three first-authored publications in peer-reviewed international journals (IF>2 or >15 citations per paper). [*Note: They need at least one first-authored publication with IF>4 to be eligible for a Research Fellow position.] They should also possess a good command of English, as well as excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills as they will be working together with several people at different levels. They should also be able to conduct a project independently.
