An ARO is available in Ong Chin Tong’s group to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate the transition from healthy to pathological state of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) during aging. Aging is the major risk factor for many human diseases and poses significant socio-economic challenges to Singapore. Our lab employs latest genomic approaches to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms of aging and AD progression in several model systems: Drosophila, mouse embryonic stem cells and iPSCs-induced neurons. Our eventual goal is to translate findings from basic research into aging biomarkers and possible interventions that may delay age-onset AD. The candidate will conduct molecular and genetic experiments to elucidate key mechanisms and epigenetic programs that regulate the aging and AD progression using the mammalian primary cells lines. The person will be trained in following areas and has the opportunity to spearhead independent project.
- Molecular techniques like DNA cloning and purification of proteins
- Chromatin immunoprecipitation and next generation sequencing
- Cell culture experiment
- Bachelor of Science Honours (Distinction or above) in Biological Sciences or related fields from reputable university
- Highly-motivated individual who is willing to learn new experimental techniques
- Competent (both practical and theoretical aspects) in the area of genetics and molecular biology
